Atli Freyr Hjaltason and Vegar Vårdal will introduce the publication of Danslög Jónasar (Eng. Jónas' Dance Tunes), a publication of an Icelandic dance music manuscript from 1864. Atli Freyr will speak about the dance culture of Iceland in the 19th century and Vegar will speak about the playing styles of Icelandic folk-fiddlers of the 20th century and how to interpret the material from the manuscript. Vegar will put the material in the manuscript in context with music from Denmark, Norway, Shetland, Orkney islands and the Faroe islands.

In this workshop, intended for children and teenagers, Kristofer will introduce participants to the percussion world of traditional Cumbia music. Instruments will be provided and a drum carousel will be formed where participants will have the opportunity to learn about the different percussion instruments of traditional Cumbia music, their rhythms and history.The workshop is free of charge but registration is required HERE

For all fiddle- and viola players 12 years and older
Musician, dancer and composer with more than 25 years experience performing, as well as teaching. Vegar resides in Vågå in Gudbrandsdalen, but has the whole of Norway and the world as a place of work. He plays both regular and hardanger fiddle, with education from the Norwegian Academy of Music. Vegar is characterized as an energetic, playful and versatile musician – and moves across a wide range of genres. Doors open at 19. Feast begins at 19:30.
VAKA Festival will be celebrated with a grand party on Saturday, 20th of September in the foyer of Salurinn. Designed by artist Björn Loki Björnsson of Krot & Krass and FÚSK, the evening will begin with a seasonal gala dinner created by Króníkan. During the meal, there will be live entertainment that reflects the essence of the festival, with special poetry and musical acts. After the meal a dance party will begin featuring Norwegian and Icelandic dance maestros, before the evening culminates with a DJ set from DJ Kraftgalli centering folk culture in the beat of the moment. -
